ŞİŞECAM closes out 2022 with strategic investments

ISTANBUL, TURKEY, December 20, 2022 /EINPresswire.com/ — Şişecam will increase Mersin’s ground glass furnace investment capacity from 180,000 to 244,000 tons per year. The company also plans to increase the annual capacity of its energy glass processing line from 20 million square meters to 26.6 million square meters. The move not only supports Sishekam’s leading position in Turkey’s energy glass industry, but also strengthens its strong position in the global glass industry.
Dr. Ahmet Kırman, Chairman and Executive Director of Şişecam, said of the move to increase the total investment in the two projects to €228 million, including working capital requirements.
“While the cost of energy is rising, the falling cost of generating electricity from solar energy and the focus on sustainability in the global arena creates new opportunities for the frosted and energy glass industry. By the end of 2024, the frosted glass capacity installed in Sishekam will reach 324,000 tonnes per year, which is in line with our sustainable value-added production strategy.”
Dr. Ahmet Kırman said the global solar energy sector will reach 710 GW in 2020, up from 40 GW in 2010. By 2030 he will quadruple to over 3,000 GW. The US, which currently supplies 3% of its energy needs from solar energy, aims to increase this ratio to 40% by 2030 and 45% by 2050. This transformation will also accelerate industry initiatives to convert energy consumption into green energy sources. and to limit their carbon footprint.
