fair lawn, new jersey — A town in New Jersey receives federal assistance to improve drinking water for residents.

At Fair Lawn Friday, Rep. Josh Gottheimer joined local officials in announcing a new $3.4 million federal investment in the borough.

The funds will be used for new and improved water treatment.

“Fair Lawn here has done a phenomenal job of keeping our water clean, but the bottom line is that as we discovered new chemicals, we had new requirements. You have to,” Gottheimer said.

Fair Lawn currently has three wells that are closed due to elevated levels of lead and eternal chemicals.

The district has been forced to purchase water from private companies until the wells can be reopened.
