North Charleston, South Carolina (WCSC) – One of Charleston’s first distilleries since Prohibition expanded.
Stripe Pig is a woman-owned, family-run distillery with a $10 million investment looking to create more than 50 jobs.
Stripe Pig Distillery in North Charleston will expand and add 24,000 square feet to its current facility to accommodate new bottling lines and event space.
Pixie Paula Dezzutti, owner of The Striped Pig, says giving back to the community and empowering women are at the forefront of this expansion.
With the help of her children, they distill a handful of spirits in-house, but Desutti says she hopes to utilize the beverage space for the benefit of the community.
After being told “no” a few times, Desutti says this wouldn’t have been possible without the woman taking a chance on her, and she hopes to do the same in return.
“Women are a major asset and undervalued in this industry because they have superior sensually taste buds and naturally know how to nurture and serve. It’s part of our DNA. It’s just a little bit,” says Dezzutti.
A portion of beverage sales will be given back to the community through nonprofits and community organizations.
With the support of North Charleston Mayor and Governor McMaster, Dezzutti aims to complete the expansion by the summer of 2023.
