Lumos makes $100m fibre investment in South Carolina

The expansion will cover approximately 1,200 miles of state-of-the-art fiber optic technology across the region and represent a capital investment of over US$100 million, making it the company’s first investment in the Southern California region.

“The world is more connected than ever, and communities need high speeds to keep pace. Lumos brings 100% fiber optic internet to previously underserved areas of South Carolina. By doing so, we aim to unlock the possibilities of the digital world.”

“We are excited to extend our reach and serve our customers in South Carolina.”

According to Lumos, the latest expansion will reach underserved areas of Columbia, Forest Acres and Arcadia Lakes in Richland County and West Columbia, Lexington, Casey, Irmo and Springdale in Lexington County. That’s it.

“Internet access is essential in today’s society. Residents and local businesses will benefit from Lumos’ expansion of broadband services in Lexington County. Lumos will provide high-speed Internet access for Lexington County residents.” I am pleased that we are continuing to work to do so.” – Scott Whetstone, Lexington County Council Chair (District 1).

Engineering work by Lumos will begin in mid-2023, with construction beginning shortly thereafter.
