LINCOLN, Nebraska (KLKN) – Lincoln’s streets are improving thanks to taxes, city officials said at a news conference Tuesday.
Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird detailed the city’s Lincoln on the Move initiative, which invested $42 million in road improvements and projects in the first three years.
The initiative is a six-year program that will invest an estimated $94 million in Lincoln Street, officials said.
In 2019, voter-approved quarter-cent sales went into effect to fund 40 street projects, officials said.
“When it comes to street quality, Lincoln stands out,” Baird said in a press release. We are strengthening the region.”
Since the initiative began, the city has been able to repair roads around Kahoa Elementary School and Lincoln High School.
Future projects include work on South 27th Street from Coronado to Old Cheney Road and road repairs in the Piedmont area.
